Incident Review Board Findings– Savoy Circle Officer Involved Shooting

The Huntsville Police Department convened an Incident Review Board on December 07, 2017 to review the actions of the officers involved in the incident that occurred on November 26th, 2017 on Savoy Circle, as well as the department’s policies.  The Review Board consisted of representatives from the Madison County District Attorney’s Office, The City of Huntsville’s Legal Department, members of the Citizens Police Advisory Council, and Huntsville Police Department personnel. The Incident Review Board examined all the evidence and found the actions of the officers involved to be consistent with the laws of the State of Alabama and departmental policy.

 

On November 26 ,2017 officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 100 block of Savoy Circle just after 7:00 p.m.  Officers were notified by neighbors after a domestic dispute between a mother and son spilled out into the yard.  Officers responded to the home where they encountered William Freddy Carter Jr., 31 of Huntsville, inside the residence.  Carter shot the first officer as he entered the room. The wounded officer then returned fire shooting Carter.  Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.  The wounded officer was transported to Huntsville Hospital where he was treated for his gunshot wound and released. All officers involved have returned to duty. ​
