The Land Trust of North Alabama is partnering with the City of Huntsville and the Alabama Trails Foundation to celebrate the Year of Alabama Trails to highlight one of Huntsville’s favorite hiking experiences: the Bill and Marion Certain Trail at Blevins Gap Nature Preserve.
The trail is a 1.97-mile hike known for its scenic overlooks and rewarding panoramic views. Beginning at the Blevins Gap Trailhead, the route climbs steadily uphill for approximately a half mile before leveling out along a ridge with overlooks on both sides. While the initial ascent is moderately challenging, the remainder of the trail offers a relatively easy and scenic hiking experience.

“Access to trails, greenways and natural spaces is an important part of what makes Huntsville a great place to live,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “It not only provides opportunities for exercise but showcases our city’s beauty as well. It’s truly a welcoming attraction that draws residents, visitors and businesses to our community. We are grateful for the Land Trust of North Alabama and the Alabama Trails Foundation for the work they do to preserve these natural resources.”
The event is part of the statewide Year of Alabama Trails initiative, a partnership between the Alabama Tourism Department and the Alabama Trails Foundation that celebrates the diverse trail systems found across Alabama. Throughout 2026, communities across the state will host events, hikes and educational opportunities that encourage residents and visitors alike to explore Alabama’s natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities.
“Trails connect people to nature, improve quality of life, and create opportunities for communities to experience the outdoors together,” said Marie Bostick, Executive Director of the Land Trust of North Alabama. “We are proud to partner with organizations across the state to celebrate Alabama’s incredible trail systems and to highlight the natural beauty we have here in Huntsville.”
Alabama’s extensive network of hiking, biking, paddling and recreational trails continues to make the state a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The Year of Alabama Trails initiative aims to foster appreciation for these natural resources while promoting healthy lifestyles and outdoor exploration.
