Mayor Battle Statement on Passing of Huntsville Native Reg E. Cathey

Mayor Tommy Battle and the City of Huntsville are saddened to hear about the death of actor Reg E. Cathey

Mr. Cathey, a J.O. Johnson graduate and Emmy award-winning actor, was well-known for his roles on House of Cards and The Wire.

Mayor Tommy Battle made the following statement on Mr. Cathey’s passing.

“Reg made Huntsville proud,” said Mayor Battle. “His immense talent, ability and dedication to his craft should be an inspiration to us all. I extend my deepest condolences to Mr. Cathey’s family and friends.”

As The Wire creator David Simon said about Mr. Cathey, “On wit alone, he could double any man over and leave him thinking. Reg, your memory is a great blessing.”
