One Dead Following Sunday Night Accident

Published on April 3, 2017

One person is dead and three others injured following a three-car accident at Mastin Lake Road and Pulaski Pike Sunday night.

Officers responded to a domestic violence call in the 3600 block of Avondale Drive around 9:20 p.m. last night.  The suspect, Hamilton Palmer, 37 of Huntsville, was reportedly making threats to the victim at the residence.  As officers pulled up, Palmer backed into one of the patrol cars and then sped away.  Officers attempted to stop Palmer who ended up going eastbound on Mastin Lake Road from Avondale Drive.  Palmer accelerated and was several blocks ahead of the officers when he ran the red light at Mastin Lake Road and Pulaski Pike.  Palmer struck a truck traveling north on Pulaski Pike, causing it to strike a car sitting in the westbound turn lane on Mastin Lake Road.  Palmer’s car came to rest in the Walgreens parking lot and he was pronounced dead at the scene.  Officers aided the other victims until HEMSI arrived.  The driver and passenger of the truck struck by Palmer are being treated for serious injuries, and the driver of the other car suffered minor injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.
