Remembering the Binford family legacy

Published on

Preserving history is an immense responsibility and I was thrilled to help recognize the legacy of the Binford family in Huntsville at the March 26 City Council meeting. I presented a resolution to Dr. Henry Claxton Binford, retired professor emeritus of History in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University, and his wife, Janey Cyrwus, to accept on behalf of the Binford family – who were part of some of the proudest and most impactful chapters in Huntsville’s history.

The Binford family history traces back more than a century, encouraging Blacks to make their voices heard through voting and supporting educational opportunities. Please take a moment to read the full resolution to gain a fuller picture of what the Binford family has meant to Huntsville.
