The City of Huntsville’s Parks & Recreation department is partnering with the Huntsville/Madison County Senior Center to host a free senior Fishing Rodeo on Tuesday, April 30, between 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., in Brahan Spring Park’s lagoon between the Miracle League fields and Everybody Can Play playground.

This event is for seniors 55+ years old. A fishing license is required for those under 65 years old. Participants must bring their own chairs, bait and equipment, and may have one line in the water.

The Senior Fishing Rodeo, now in its third year, was started by a Parks & Recreation employee.

“As a senior citizen, I looked around and thought that it would be great for there to be more senior-centered events,” said Henry Pope, Parks & Recreation. “I enjoy fishing, so I worked with some others in the department to create the Senior Fishing Rodeo. I am excited to see the buzz and participation continue to grow.”

The Brahan Spring Park Lagoon will be closed for fishing on Monday, April 29, while the lagoon is being stocked with catfish and will reopen to the public on Tuesday, April 30, after the senior tournament. No public fishing will be allowed during that time frame.
