On Friday, April 12th, 2019 at 2:30 pm Huntsville Firefighters responded to a house fire on Jeanette Circle. Fire units reported heavy smoke coming from the eves of the house. Crews were informed that someone was still inside the home. Firefighters rapidly began a search for a victim. Directly after the search began they learned the occupant believed to have been in the home had escaped safely. Firefighters found a fire in the attached garage and rapidly extinguished it. The garage received the majority of the damage and the rest of the home received heavy smoke. No injuries were reported. Investigators ruled a clothes dryer inadvertently caused the fire.

Subsequently, the fire Investigators found out that the resident in the household at the time of the fire was taking a nap and was awakened by the smoke alarms. This is a situation where the working smoke alarms in the home aided in saving a man’s life. Please let this be a good reminder to take a few minutes and check your smoke alarms to make sure they are operating correctly. A bad or non-working smoke alarm can cause catastrophic damage, injuries and death.
