Tapping into community spirit: Straight to Ale helps keep Huntsville clean

For the team at Straight to Ale, giving back to Huntsville isn’t just good citizenship—it’s brewed into their DNA. After 17 years rooted in The Rocket City, the popular brewery’s crew wanted a hands-on way to support the community that has supported them.

“We wanted to find a way to make a direct, positive impact in our community, and the Huntsville Green Team’s Adopt-a-Spot program was a great opportunity to do just that,” said Straight to Ale Marketing and Social Media Manager Ella Henry. “It gives our team a chance to get outside, work together and help keep our city clean and beautiful.”

Every other month, about ten Straight to Ale staff members gather along Meridian Street to clean, connect and care for a slice of the city they proudly call home. What began as a summer volunteer effort quickly became a meaningful team‑building tradition. For Straight to Ale, these outings are more than litter pickups—they’re moments of teamwork, gratitude and stewardship.

“We’re incredibly grateful for everything Huntsville has given us,” Henry said. “Volunteering is one small way we can give back to the city that has supported us for so many years.”

Their message to anyone considering getting involved in the community is simple: start small, show up and don’t underestimate the impact of even a little time or kindness. The team feels strongly that being part of Green Team is not only a chance to improve Huntsville’s shared spaces but also a way to strengthen the community ties that make the city thrive.

“Helping can be as simple as asking where you can lend a hand. Find a local cleanup group, volunteer at an animal shelter or soup kitchen, or look for an organization doing work that matters to you,” Henry said. “Huntsville is growing quickly, and there are so many opportunities to get involved. Even a little time, effort or kindness can make a difference in our community.”

The next Straight to Ale cleanup is planned for late October, and Henry said that with the weather finally feeling more like fall, the team is ready to get back out there!
