The City of Huntsville took steps to accommodate residential growth and a new school in Huntsville-annexed Limestone County, approving a design contract with Mullins LLC for road expansions on Peoples Road and Pryor Road just south of Interstate 565.
There are multiple aspects of the project:
- 4,700 linear feet of Peoples Road between Swancott Road and Old Highway 20 will be upgraded to five lanes, including a center turn lane, and five-foot sidewalks on each side.
- 2,000 linear feet of the new Pryor Road Connector will become three lanes, including a center turn lane, and five-foot sidewalks on each side.
- 3,000 linear feet of a proposed new road extending south from Peoples Road will be four lanes with landscaped median and five-foot sidewalks on each side and a 50-foot grassed landscaped median adjacent to the school site.
The scope of work for Mullins will include surveying, right-of-way mapping, tract sketches and deeds as well as roadway, drainage and geotechnical design.
Huntsville City Schools is expected to break ground on the P-8 school in the coming months.
