Enjoy a morning of free fishing and the chance to win dozens of special prizes at the Wally Vess Youth Fishing Rodeo. The annual event for ages 6-12 returns to Brahan Spring Park North Lagoon on Saturday, June 3.

With the support of Buster’s Bait and Tackle and nearly two-dozen other generous community partners, the lagoon will be stocked with 250 pounds of catfish. Twenty-five fish will be tagged for prizes. Top anglers in a variety of categories are also eligible for awards.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year at Huntsville Parks and Recreation,” said Community Center Supervisor Bruce Keel. “It’s a relaxing time for the family to spend together, watch a child catch a fish and maybe even take home a new bike.”

All participants must register at Brahan Spring Park between 7-8:30 a.m. The fishing rodeo is 8:30-10:30 a.m., which will be followed by prize and award giveaways.

While children can receive help in baiting their lines and removing their catch, they must hook and reel in the fish on their own. Participants should bring their own chairs, equipment and bait.
