City Council – Meeting Highlights from April 12, 2018

Huntsville City Council

Planning

Council set a public hearing for May 24 on a request to zone 659 acres of newly annexed property in Morgan County across the Tennessee River from Ditto Landing. The land, on the north and south sides of River Loop Road, would be zoned in two categories: approximately 352 acres as Resident 1 District and 307 acres to Commercial Recreation C-5 District.

Introduced an ordinance to annex 345 acres of land on the east and west sides of McMullen Road and north of Cherry Tree Road for a developer to construct a new subdivision. The item will be voted upon at the April 26 Council meeting.


Economic Development

Urban Development Director received Council approval to retain Sound Diplomacy, a London-based music consulting company to study music business opportunities in the Huntsville market. Council approved the $165,000 request. The study is expected to take about 14 months. (READ more in City Blog)

 

Administration

Mayor Tommy Battle named Ricky Wilkinson as the City’s new General Services Director. Wilkinson has been serving as interim director since Jeff Easter’s retirement earlier this year.


Board Appointments

Wiley Day. Jr., was appointed to complete a vacant term, through June 22, on the Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council by Council Member Culver.
