Huntsville Animal Services reduces fee for ‘genetically adoptable’ pets
Published on May 20, 2021
It’s become increasingly popular for pet owners to submit DNA tests to determine an animal’s breed, but Huntsville Animal Services (HAS) has taken away some of the guesswork by certifying its pets as 100% genetically adoptable.
Starting Friday, May 21, adopters can take home a furry companion for as little as $10. There are more than 50 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens at the shelter in need of a temporary or forever home.
Those who fall for a mixed-breed mutt can still submit DNA samples to any number of companies that identify breeds, health risks, and physical and personality traits.
The HAS adoption package includes vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, microchip, a City license and a free bag of pet food. Some exemptions apply. If you’re unable to adopt a pet, consider fostering an animal through the Shelter’s foster program.
