Huntsville Parks & Recreation serves up second annual Dink Pink event

Parks & Recreation invites pickleball players of all skill levels to visit participating recreation centers on Tuesday, Oct. 13, for the second annual city-wide Dink Pink Pickleball Day in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
The free, open-play sessions welcome all skill levels and while healthy competition is welcome, players are encouraged to serve, rally and dink in honor of those affected by breast cancer. Players and cheering sections are encouraged to wear their pink outfits and invited to don a pink ribbon provided by the centers in support of the cause.
Pink-themed pickleball accessory giveaways will be provided by each center while supplies last.
Participating centers:
- West Huntsville Recreation Center: 8-10 a.m., ages 18+
- Fern Bell Recreation Center: 9 a.m.-noon, competitive play, ages 18+
- Sandra Moon Community Complex: 9-11 a.m., competitive play, ages 18+
- Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center: 10 a.m.-noon, ages 18+
- Brahan Spring Recreation Center: 10 a.m.-1 p.m., ages 18+
- Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center: 10 a.m.-1 p.m., ages 18+
- Max Luther Community Center: 11 a.m.-1 p.m., ages 50+
- Optimist Recreation Center: 1-3 p.m., ladies only
- Mark Russell Recreation Center: 1:30-4:30 p.m., ages 18+
“Dink Pink gives residents a fun reason to try out pickleball, visit a recreation center they may not have been to before and spend some time on the court,” said Superintendent of Recreation for Community Services Dorianne Johnson. “With free play, pink-themed giveaways and opportunities for players of all skill levels, there’s plenty of room to come out, pick up a paddle and show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
