College students and faculty members who are passionate about the environment have a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the planet during Earth Week while taking advantage of Huntsville Transit’s services.

From April 22-27, individuals with a valid college ID can enjoy complimentary rides on Huntsville Orbit buses. This offer extends to students, faculty and staff from all colleges and universities in the Huntsville area.

The initiative also coincides with Earth Day, celebrated globally on April 22 and locally on Saturday, April 20, at Hays Nature Preserve.

Quisha Bryant, Director of Parking and Public Transit, expressed excitement about the weeklong promotion, emphasizing the affordability and convenience of public transportation as well as the environmental benefits. She highlighted Huntsville Transit’s accessible service to colleges and universities, encouraging people to experience it firsthand.

“If you live and work in the heart of Huntsville, public transportation is a great way to reduce carbon emissions and safely reach your destination,” Bryant said. “Also, during a time of fuel price fluctuations, Huntsville Transit is a great, economical alternative.”

Huntsville Transit will strengthen its environmental commitment over the next few years with the planned addition of hybrid fixed-route buses and all-electric paratransit shuttles. The City is also studying the feasibility of adding a bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor to serve key activity and employment centers along University Drive.
