Glaukos breaks ground on new research and manufacturing campus

Published on September 25, 2025

Mayor Tommy Battle joined community and industry leaders to celebrate the groundbreaking of Glaukos Corporation’s research and manufacturing campus in Cummings Research Park. Glaukos is a global ophthalmic pharmaceutical and medical technology company focused on novel therapies for the treatment of glaucoma, corneal disorders and retinal diseases.

Nine men wearing suits and white construction hard hats stand behind a long mound of dirt. All hold silver shovels poised to do a ceremonial turning of the dirt at a groundbreaking event.

“For decades, Huntsville has worked to build an environment where science, technology and advanced manufacturing thrive together in a community that knows how to support discovery,” Mayor Battle said. “Glaukos’ decision to grow here builds on that foundation, showing how our community’s strengths attract companies that are shaping the future of human health around the world.”

Mayor Battle said the company’s decision to expand in Huntsville reflects the City’s collaborative innovation ecosystem, its strong track record in science and technology and its long-term investment in biotech growth.

“Glaukos has always been committed to advancing transformative therapies for patients, and this new facility represents an exciting next step in our journey,” said Thomas Burns, Glaukos chairman and chief executive officer. “After evaluating over 100 potential sites worldwide, we chose Huntsville for its strong talent base and vibrant business climate.  We are proud to further expand our footprint in the U.S.”

The City supported the project with an economic development agreement that will help bring an $82 million capital investment and 154 full-time jobs by 2030.
