A Call to Be the Best: HPD accepting applications for officers

Answer the call and join one of the best public safety agencies in the country. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is accepting applications for its 72nd session of the Huntsville Police Academy, which begins in February 2025.
HPD is proud to employ over 400 sworn officers who serve the community with courage, integrity, and professionalism. Officers come from diverse backgrounds, education and experience, reflecting the department’s commitment to inclusivity.
“Our police department has a long and rich history of professional service to the citizens of the City of Huntsville,” HPD Chief Kirk Giles said. “Being a police officer is an extremely rewarding career, and there is no better place to serve than the City of Huntsville.”
Applicants must meet the following criteria to attend Huntsville Police Academy:
- U.S. Citizen
- 20 years of age to apply, 21 years of age at the time of graduation
- Valid driver’s license
- Graduate with a high school diploma or GED
- Pass interview board, drug screening, medical examination and polygraph
- Previous military must have received an honorable discharge on DD214
