The City of Huntsville is issuing a final reminder to students and families that the application window for the 2026-2027 Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) is closing soon.

All applications must be submitted no later than Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 10 p.m.

MYAC is a yearlong leadership and civic engagement program designed for rising high school freshmen through seniors. Participants gain hands-on experience with City operations, collaborate with civic leaders, and contribute to initiatives that elevate youth perspectives in municipal decision-making.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Reside and attend school within Huntsville city limits (residency will be verified)
  • Submit a completed application
  • Include at least one letter of recommendation
  • Provide an official or unofficial transcript verifying cumulative GPA
  • Obtain parent/guardian consent if under age 18

City leaders encourage students interested in leadership, civic engagement, and community service to apply.

“Our young people have powerful ideas, and MYAC gives them a platform to put those ideas into action,” said Multicultural Affairs Director Dr. Randy Barbour, Jr.
