Attempted Murder on (2) Huntsville Police Officers

On October 5th, 2016 at 1630 hours Huntsville Police Officers attempted a routine traffic stop at the intersection of Sparkman Drive and Blue Spring Road.  The driver refused to stop his vehicle and was occupied by (2) additional male subjects.  The officers initiated a short vehicle pursuit and continued west on Sparkman Drive.  The vehicle stopped at the intersection of Warrior Street and Mercedes Avenue.  The driver exited his vehicle and fired shots at officers with a handgun.  Officers returned fire and the driver fled the area on foot.  Officers chased the driver on foot but lost him in the area.  The two passengers left the area in the offender’s vehicle but was later located at the 3600 block of Kenard Avenue.  Assisting officers responded and completely locked down the neighborhood.  K-9 teams were deployed and an extensive search was conducted in the area for the armed driver.  The driver was located by a K-9 team hiding in a concrete drainage culvert in the area of Thornhill Road and Del Ray Avenue and he was taken into custody without injuries. All three subjects were transported to the South Precinct for further investigation.


The two Huntsville Police Officers were placed on Administrative Leave pending the investigation and outcome of a Shooting Review Board which is standard protocol.

 

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jeremy Hampton, age:27.  Mr. Hampton will be arrested for (2) counts of Attempted Murder of a Police Officer.  He also has a pending arrest warrant for Robbery 1st degree. 

 

This incident is still under investigation and more details will be made available at a later time. At this time the two passengers are still being interviewed and unknown if any charges will be made at this time.
