City Hall is peeling back the curtain and inviting citizens into the decision-making process that drives municipal government. It’s called City Blog, featuring articles that take a deeper dive into new projects, initiatives, and services. City Blog illuminates municipal partnerships and provides answers to frequently asked questions. It provides weekly content exploring everything from the logistics behind the new master greenway plan to police de-escalation efforts to the process behind road paving and pothole priorities.

“It comes down to transparency,” Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle said. “Citizens need to know what their government is doing, and that’s the exact reason we launched City Blog.

More than that, Mayor Battle said, it’s about citizens plugging in and finding opportunities to become more involved in their community.

“When we do our best to keep citizens well informed about the work we perform on their behalf, they are in a better position to provide constructive feedback and offer suggestions to help us better serve their needs,” said Mayor Battle.

City Blog is accompanied by a recently redesigned website – HuntsvilleAL.gov, which is built from citizen input and best practices in digital communication. The new HuntsvilleAL.gov includes a Resident Toolkit that highlights information most requested by citizens and a robust Media Center complete with a news archive, social media directory, roadwork updates, daily air pollution count, calendars and more.

HuntsvilleAL.gov and City Blog are just two digital options in the City’s communication network. Citizens can also keep up with the latest news by following the City’s 24 active social media accounts, or by subscribing to the City’s seven regular e-newsletters.

Don’t see what you are looking for? Citizens may send story ideas and questions to communications@HuntsvilleAL.gov.

“We’re a stronger community, when we are talking with one another,” Mayor Battle said. “We’re using every digital tool in the toolbox to connect with our citizens.”
