The second annual Heroes on the Block – a free community celebration for the entire family organized by Huntsville Police (HPD) and Huntsville Fire & Rescue (HFR) – will be Saturday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center. It’s an opportunity to interact with police officers and firefighters, get an up-close look at police and fire vehicles and learn more about how they keep our city safe.

But there is much more fun to the block party:

  • Free food
  • Inflatables & games
  • Local vendors & giveaways
  • Live music

“We’re excited about this event because it gives us a chance to learn more about the community we serve,” HPD North Precinct Commander Capt. Scott Widner said. “It’s a great time for conversation with officers and HPD leadership and share how we value our partnership with residents to make Huntsville a safer place to live.”

While the event is designed for community enjoyment, it’s also fun for the City’s public safety departments.

“We often see people during their worst days as we do our jobs,” HFR Capt. Cory Green said. “So we are always eager for the chance to spend time with the friends and neighbors we serve in a more enjoyable setting. We had a great time last year and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone on May 16.”
