Catch Up on D5 Highlights
February 14, 2025Whether it’s road improvements or new businesses, D5 is a fast-growing area of Huntsville. Council President John Meredith compiled all those changes and more data in the District 5 update. The 48-page booklet provides a trove of information about D5 and helps residents stay in the know about development happening in their community.

February 14, 2025The City’s annual Development Review revealed that housing inventory continues to grow in D5. In 2024, 2,957 housing units were issued certificates of occupancy (COs) in D5. The boost primarily came in multi-family developments. Altogether, the City set a record with more than 6,000 units receiving COs in 2024. Home sales were up 1.5% in 2024 in D5 with single-family homes selling for an average price of $397,713.

February 14, 2025D5 grew by 394.93 acres when the City approved annexation of land at the southeast corner of I-65 and I-565. The landowners intend to construct a planned development with multifamily and single-family housing and commercial opportunities, similar to Village of Providence. The corridor is expected to be developed over the next two decades. The annexation makes Huntsville the 27th-largest city in the nation by land mass.

January 21, 2025The Deck the Districts Holiday Light Contest provided some fun competition between residents and everyone in Huntsville benefited through the opportunity to see the light displays during the holiday season. A winner was chosen from each Council district and in D5, the winner was Helizabeth Costello, who received a certificate from Council Member Meredith at the Dec. 19 Council meeting. December 17, 2024In partnership with the Huntsville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the City is set to improve the intersection of Slaughter Road and Madison Boulevard. The MPO is covering 80% of the $5.375 million project while the City is funding the remaining 20%. The funding will evaluate the need for additional turn lanes and signal improvements at the intersection to minimize traffic backup and cover construction costs.
