City of Huntsville closure information for New Year’s Day Holiday

The City of Huntsville’s municipal offices will be closed for all non-essential personnel on New Year’s Day, Wednesday,  January 1, and reopen on Thursday, January 2. Details can be found below on how this closure impacts some City services:

Garbage Collection:  Wednesday’s residential curbside collection will be picked up on Thursday, January 2. Households whose normal garbage pick-up day is on Thursday will have their garbage collected on Friday, January 3.

Public Transit:  Shuttle bus and paratransit service (Handi-Ride) will operate on its normal schedule on New Year’s Eve, December 31, and not be in service on Wednesday, January 1. Normal operating hours will resume on Thursday, January 2.

Parks & Recreation:  Recreation centers and facilities will close at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Recreation facilities will be closed on Wednesday, January 1, and will reopen on Thursday, January 2.

Animal Services:  The Animal Shelter and Animal Services will be open during normal operating hours on New Year’s Eve from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., be closed on Wednesday, January 1, and reopen on Thursday, January 2.

Municipal Court:  Municipal Court will keep regular operating hours with the exception of closure on Wednesday, January 1.  Municipal Court will resume normal operating hours on Thursday, January 2.

Public Safety:  Police and Fire will remain on duty throughout the holiday.
