Cotton Row Run to impact downtown Huntsville traffic on Memorial Day
Published on
Drivers traveling through downtown Huntsville on Monday, May 25, should prepare for traffic delays, temporary road closures and increased pedestrian activity as thousands of runners are set to take part in the annual Cotton Row 10K, 5K and 1-Mile Run events.
Approximately 5,000 runners are expected to participate in the races, which begin at 7 a.m. and conclude around 11 a.m.
Officers with the Huntsville Police Department (HPD) will be stationed throughout the race routes to assist with traffic control and pedestrian safety.
Church Street between Clinton Avenue and Williams Avenue will close around 4:30 a.m. and is expected to reopen around noon.
Race routes will impact multiple downtown streets, including portions of Church Street, Monroe Street, Williams Avenue, Holmes Avenue, California Street, Bankhead Parkway, Pratt Avenue and surrounding roadways.
Drivers should expect heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout the downtown area during the morning hours, and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible, allow extra travel time and use caution around runners, spectators and traffic control personnel.
HPD appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as we work to help ensure a safe event for participants and visitors.
