Huntsville Police cites 24 convenience stores for underage alcohol sales

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) recently conducted an underage alcohol detail throughout Huntsville after receiving multiple tips from the community about convenience stores selling alcohol to minors.

The four-hour operation conducted on Wednesday, November 17, included HPD Community Resource Officers (CROs) and two juveniles. The CROs and juveniles visited 32 stores to determine if they would sell alcohol to a minor. The juveniles had to be truthful about their age and show identification if asked by a store employee.

24 of the 32 stores visited were cited during the operation for unlawfully selling alcohol to a minor.

Selling alcohol to a minor is a misdemeanor offense. Those who sell alcohol to a minor can face up to a $1,000 fine or a year in jail. Subsequent offenses can result in increased fines or jail time.
