June 7, 2024Council Member Meredith presented the $12,000 allocation from the District 5 Council Improvement Fund to the Historic Huntsville Foundation for the Lydia Drive National Register Historic District nomination. City Council approved the donation in January and Meredith presented the ceremonial check to HHF Executive Director Donna Castellano and her team. Discussion focused on issues that have emerged due to the booming growth in District 5 such as infrastructure, roads and traffic. The growth has also led Huntsville City Schools to include in its capital plan a new school in Limestone County for grades P-8 that will serve students in west Huntsville.

Barger focused on the duties of the probate office in administering elections. The probate judge is the top county elections official. Barger discussed the cost and logistics of preparing for elections to accommodate the 320,000 registered voters in Madison County.
