Huntsville Police honors excellence at annual awards ceremony

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) recognized its finest officers and employees Thursday, April 17, during its annual awards ceremony, celebrating outstanding service and leadership throughout 2024.

Held at the Stone Event Center at Campus No. 805, the ceremony brought together officers, families, city leaders and community partners to recognize excellence across all areas of the department.

“This is a night of celebration – an opportunity to highlight the individuals who embody the highest standards of law enforcement,” Police Chief Kirk Giles said. “These awards reflect more than just a moment of excellence. They represent a year of dedication, integrity and professionalism that strengthens our department and community.”

Promotion Recognition:

Sergeant David Lowery: Promoted for outstanding service and leadership. Sgt. Lowery has served since 2017 and currently works in the North Precinct.

As the department celebrates achievements, Giles also reflected on the department’s broader progress.

“Since 2019, Huntsville’s population has grown by approximately 20%, yet we’ve seen a 26% drop in Part 1 crimes and a 39% decrease in violent crime,” Chief Giles said. “That kind of progress is a testament to the dedication of the men and women in this room.”
